Access all areas

As businesses grow, their infrastructure needs to be able to expand accordingly. And while access control may not be the most pressing issue as a company is starting out, as it grows and finds more staff, and more and more clients and visitors begin to require access to its buildings and site, the benefits of effectively controlled access speak for themselves.
Access all areas

Given that the first key is rumoured to have been invented over 5000 years ago, we think you’ll agree that it may be time for an update. Adopting a new technology standard allows organisations to take advantage of enhanced functionality and a higher level of security. Today’s access solutions allow organisations to embrace new levels of convenience and utility.

At Dynamic Networks, we design and install a range of door entry systems that give you complete control across your building or site. By combining typed access codes, fobs, swipe and magnetic cards, biometrics and video image recognition with secure doors, turnstiles and gates, we make it easy for you to register, log and track people as they move around your site.

Typed access codes

Electronic numeric locks are one of the most popular alternatives to traditional locks. Access codes are a cost-effective access solution as no physical ‘keys’ need to exist, just a string of numbers that can be as long or as short as you wish. They are also easy to change regularly, with most experts recommending a new code be generated at least once a month. This new code can then be redistributed to as many or as few people as you wish, and the risk of keys being lost or stolen is completely eliminated.

However, one disadvantage of using typed access codes is that you will have no control over who your staff may give the code to, so be sure to have a company policy on this and brief your team accordingly. People may also become complacent when entering the code and allow others to see what they type – again, make sure they understand your policies around confidentiality.

Swipe and magnetic cards and fobs

Replacing locks with intelligently controlled devices such as fobs and/or swipe and magnetic cards you will give you an additional level of security. They are almost impossible to replicate, which means your building will only be accessible to those you choose to supply with a fob or card.

Added customisation is also possible, such as adding hours during which the door may be unlocked or altering the privileges of individual staff members as and when required without inconveniencing anyone else. Studies have also shown that people may be likely to take better care of a card or fob than a normal key as it cannot be replicated as easily.

Biometrics and video image recognition

If traditional locks are the past and typed access codes, fobs and magnetic cards are the present then it’s safe to say that biometric access control is the technology of the future. Devices such as mobile phones are beginning to rely on fingerprint identification over physical passwords, and this is filtering through into businesses, too, with more and more starting to adopt this type of access control.

Biometric security devices include fingerprint readers, retinal eye scanners and hand geometry readers. Unless a person is registered on the system there is simply no way for them to gain access to the building and, unlike keys, cards or number sequences, users are unable to transfer their biometric access to anyone else. Accuracy for this type of technology is improving all the time, as is the reporting of all entries and exits stored on the system, allowing you to monitor anyone who tries to obtain unlawful access.

Remote access

Today’s sophisticated intercom systems bring together the latest in design, technology and security to give businesses much greater flexibility and control to allow visitors access to their premises. They can be controlled remotely – often by a smartphone – and directed to a main reception or to individuals within the organisation to grant visitors access to the building. They also allow you to create a personalised greeting for visitors, or give directional prompts to car parking, for example.

Finding the right solution to automate, monitor and manage access to your property or site is a key part of keeping your building and business safe and secure as it grows. Contact us to arrange a free site survey, or to find out more about access control services.
