What is an EICR and why do you need one?

If you are using electrical equipment in a commercial building or a rented property, then you need an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), it really is that simple. So now you know you need one, let us tell you why. In a nutshell an EICR helps keep your premises and your people safe from the risks that can arise as the result of electronic installations. On top of that, it is also a factor that helps ensure your business complies with Health and Safety Regulations (1974) and other HSE Requirements and ISO standards, so it really is worthwhile investing in getting a electrical installation condition report for your business.

At Dynamic Networks, all our electrical engineers are fully qualified and as a business we are NICEIC approved contractors, so you can rest assured that we know what we are doing when it comes to electrical installations.

What is inspected in an EICR?

During an EICR, the consumer unit (or fuseboard as it is also known), electrical wiring and cabling and electrical accessories are thoroughly tested and inspected for faults or deviations from the Wiring Standards. The test will consider and address areas such as:
  • The adequacy of the earthing and bonding.
  • Devices for protection against fire and electric shock.
  • Any damage or wear and tear that might affect safety
  • Identification of any damaged electrical fittings and accessories.
  • Identification of any exposed live wires that could cause a fire or injury.
The aim of an EICR is to alert you to any potential risks and faults, so they can be addressed and made safe before the worst can happen. It also is a big part of keeping your insurance valid and your business compliant with various legislation and compliance.
