Proximity secure zoning: what is it?

Don’t you just love it when we give IT products and services fancy names? In this case, ‘proximity secure zoning’.
Proximity secure zoning: what is it?

So what on earth is proximity secure zoning, and why would a business need it?

Simply put, it’s the ability to create specific areas where you can work freely with sensitive data and automatically re-encrypt data when you move outside the specifically assigned secure area. In other words, it enables you to keep data secure on the move – ideal for today’s increasingly mobile workforce.

We’re always looking for ways to make transitioning data into a secure encrypted environment easier for businesses. Proximity secure zoning, when implemented as part of a wider encryption policy, offers a simple solution.

Imagine being able to quickly and easily switch on secure zones wherever and whenever you want to and, when you’ve finished working, switch them off again. Enter the secure zone and your data becomes available to work on; leave the zone and it is automatically re-encrypted.

Being able to assign ‘safe zones’ means that you can dictate when data becomes available and for how long. You simply specify the location – maybe certain areas in your head office or designated regional offices (which can be anywhere around the world). If someone changes a meeting venue at the last minute? Not a problem. You can create a proximity secure zone and work without fear of your data being vulnerable.

Combine this with the ability to track the data at all times, remotely destroy data if it’s stolen, complete audit reporting to meet data protection compliance - and the ability to move data safely and securely becomes reality. What’s more, you don’t even have to remember to re-encrypt the data or set a password. All you do is move out of the secure zone and your data is automatically encrypted.

So if you or your employees are regularly required to move sensitive company or customer data as part of their day-to-day work and you’re currently using traditional USB technology to do it, you can make life simpler - and your data more secure - by adding proximity secure zoning into your cyber security armoury.

We love spending time helping companies protect themselves from cyber-crime, improving the way they protect the data they hold and finding new ways of tipping the balance in favour of hard working businesses. We see proximity secure zoning as a real technological step in the right direction. If you’d like to know more, just get in touch.
