Bigger than the big screen: planning your own home cinema

Incorporating a home cinema environment into a living space is becoming surprisingly popular amongst luxury home owners.
Bigger than the big screen: planning your own home cinema
Creating the right atmosphere for you and your family can seem like a daunting process, however it doesn’t have to be. We’ve compiled a list of things to consider to ensure your home cinema will create the perfect experience for you.
  1. Where can I create a home cinema?

Choosing the location for your cinema room can be one of the toughest decisions. If you have an unused room, such as an attic room or basement, then this is usually the most popular option. It doesn’t really matter where your home cinema is, as long as it’s right for you. You can even integrate your cinema system into an existing living room, which can serve as a multi-purpose room. With features such as automated blinds and dimmable, colour-changing lights, the atmosphere can soon be changed from an elegant room for socialising, to a cosy den for a teenage movie night.
  1. Selecting the best environment

In terms of acoustics, a rectangular room would create the best quality of sound compared to a square room. A room free from windows will automatically create that movie atmosphere, but a room with windows can be fitted with automatic blinds that close for cinema mode.
  1. Who wins the war of TV vs projector?

At Dynamic, we can provide either a TV or a projector for your home cinema project. TVs tend to offer a higher quality image and will be less affected by light, however you can have a larger screen when using a projector – which tend to be better for larger rooms. If you’re opting for the former, choose a 4K Ultra HD, HDR, OLED TV for a crystal-clear picture. If you’d prefer a projector and screen, a 4K projector is recommended, but not always necessary.
  1. What about the lights?

Lighting plays an important role in creating that immersive, true cinema experience. Our automated lighting systems can be controlled via a wall panel or tablet device, allowing you to set up individual scenarios such as movie, socialising or family mode which will automatically adjust the lights accordingly to create the perfect ambience.
  1. Acoustic balance

To achieve the best cinema-quality audio distribution, speakers should be placed in specific places, with cushioning on the walls to contain the sound and prevent an echo. The speakers should be of high-quality, too, such as Dolby Atmos surround sound to give you that true cinema experience.
  1. Content for all generations

The availability of content is so vast in 2018, but have a think about what you will want to use most. Online streaming services such as Netflix, Spotify and iTunes are easy to access and are available at HD quality through most smart TVs and game consoles, as well as devices such as Apple TV. If you still have a back catalogue of DVDs or Blu-Rays, you might want to think about including a DVD and Blu-Ray player into your solution. Or do you prefer to use Sky services to watch and record your favourite shows? Heck, we can even integrate with your Betamax if you want us to! Whatever content you choose can be controlled via a wall panel or tablet device, so you won’t even need to get out of your seat.
Creating a bespoke home cinema that works for you is paramount to us, from design and hardware choice, to installation, calibration and aftercare support. If you’re interested in finding out more how we can help you with your home cinema, then get in touch today.
