Dynamic reveals plans to extend apprenticeship scheme

The Leeds-based Dynamic Networks Group has revealed plans to double the number of apprentices within the business in 2018.
Dynamic reveals plans to extend apprenticeship scheme

Named The Dynamic Academy, the trainee and apprenticeship scheme will enable the IT, cyber security, networks and automation business to expand its team in line with a fast growing client base.

Dynamic Group CEO James Baird’s aim is to give apprentices the opportunity to work alongside experienced staff, which will enable them to quickly learn hands-on, job-specific skills that they can continue to develop alongside their academic studies.

The Dynamic Networks Group currently employs five apprentices within its 43-strong team across IT, cyber security, networks and automation departments. This number is set to double in 2018. The firm plans to build on existing relationships with apprentice services to track down the right candidates, and continue to work with training providers to provide the academic studies that run alongside the apprentices’ vocational training.

Group Operations Manager Annabel Walker joined the group 18 months ago in a marketing role, where she worked alongside others in the business to develop her skills whilst studying for a Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma. As well as looking after marketing, she has recently moved into an operations role where she will continue her professional development. Project manager Steve Summerton has experienced a similar progression, moving from engineer to project manager with the help and support of the team providing mentoring and on the job training.

James Baird, Dynamic Networks Group CEO, says: “I am a firm believer in hiring for attitude over aptitude. Finding people who are enthusiastic and committed to learning will thrive here, because we give them the support they need to develop their skills.

“Ours is a fast growing business with plenty of opportunities for the right people to learn and grow. This approach has been working incredibly well for us in some parts of the business, and we’re keen to expand it across all areas and departments in 2018.

“A lot of industries are affected by the skills gap in the UK, and ours is no exception. By sourcing new staff based on their potential rather than their experience, we are taking measures to plug the skills gap whilst injecting fresh enthusiasm and ideas into the business.”

Since May 2015, 1.1m UK apprenticeships have started, with the Department of Education remaining committed to reaching three million apprenticeship starts in England by 2020.

Dynamic Networks Group operates from a base in Leeds, providing IT, cyber security, networks and automation services to organisations in the region and beyond. The firm opened a London office in August to support its work in the capital and make its services more readily available to a growing customer base across the south of England.
