Who are St Gemma's?
St Gemma’s Hospice is the largest hospice in Yorkshire and one of the largest in England, providing the best possible care and quality of life for local people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.
St Gemma’s provides a friendly, warm and safe place at the heart of the local community with a range of expert services available to support patients, their families and friends. Care is focused around the needs of the individual and the hospice is respectful of all beliefs, religions and cultures.
The head of services and estates at St Gemma’s contacted us to help with a server room and network cabling overhaul. Covering all data, telephone, printers, PDAs and door access control, the network had been upgraded and updated on a piece-by-piece basis over a period of several years, and was in need of review and remodelling.
The Dynamic Solution
We planned and undertook a full network overhaul in the communications and server rooms, stripping all of the cabling back, re-patching 500 network points and relocating the servers into an adjacent, air conditioned room to avoid equipment overheating.
With the support infrastructure in place, we moved the servers and then our team completed the network cabling installation over a single weekend quickly and efficiently, with minimal disruption to hospice activities and no downtime.
The benefits
As well as much quicker and easier access for servicing the equipment, hospice staff have also reported an increase in network speed and ease of use as a result of the streamlined system we installed.
