Dealing with disasters

It’s been almost a year since the devastating events that unfolded across Yorkshire and beyond on Boxing Day 2015, when the region suffered its worst flooding in a generation and hundreds of homes and businesses were left submerged under filthy flood waters.
Dealing with disasters

The 2015 floods meant a heart-breaking start to 2016 for many people, and there are still homes and businesses feeling the impact almost 12 months later.

The sheer scale of the flooding meant that a lot of the damage to the region’s buildings and infrastructure was inevitable. But there are lessons to be learned, too. Many businesses will have spent time in 2016 rewriting their disaster recovery plans to help safeguard their future operability.

As far as IT backups are concerned, it’s wise to follow the advice of the old Boy Scout adage: be prepared. For while such events remind us that businesses can fall victim at any time to any number of catastrophic events, from flash floods to fires, one casualty that is avoidable is your business data.

What’s the worst that can happen?

Many businesses experienced the worst that can happen when the 2015 floods hit. And some never recovered.

PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates 70% of businesses that experience a major data loss are likely to go out of business within a year, buckling under the pressure of rescuing not only their premises, but also their data.

The National Computer Security Association reports that, without adequate backup, it can take 21 days and £15,000 to recreate just 20 MB of lost accounting data. Faced with stark facts like these, why take the risk with your data when a few simple steps can avoid it happening to you?

Where to start

Backups are crucial. Moving data backups to the cloud gives businesses a ‘ready to go’ disaster recovery solution, with all data stored securely offsite. If the worst should happen, and your premises become unusable, your business could be back up and running within minutes from an alternative site - even your own living room!

Storing data backups at an off-site location is the best way to ensure that a copy of your most critical data will remain protected from a disaster that may befall your business. And it needn’t be difficult or expensive to set up.

At Dynamic, we are experts at putting together robust, bespoke backup processes. We offer a range of options, tailored to your needs, including offsite, cloud storage and offsite replication as well as traditional backup methods. And, should disaster strike, we are here to get you up and working as normal with minimal disruption to your business.

Our Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools enable our support team to restore your data quickly. So whether it’s just one file or an entire system restore, we have the skills and experience to do it – and fast. After all, when it comes to the future of your business, time is often of the essence.
